Above Ground Pool Closing Procedure for Pools that use Baquacil Chemicals

  • 1. Clean Pool thoroughly. Oxidize and add algicide if the pool is green or water is cloudy. Vacuum and remove any leaves and debris. Clean the water line with Baquacil surface cleaner while the water is draining.
  • 2.Lower your water level approximately 6" below the wall skimmer and/or return fitting. Now is the ideal time to install the new Aquador Skimmer Closure System Failure to lower your pool's water level below any plastic fixture may result in damaged or cracked parts due to freezing water.
  • 3.Drain water from your skimmer, remove basket and replace top. Remove ladder(s) from the swimming pool.
  • Disconnect your filter equipment. Drain all the water from the pump and tank. Sand should be removed, and DE and Cartridge filters should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly with a filter cleaner. If pump and/or tank cannot be removed from a pool site, then pool anti-freeze must be added to the equipment after it is drained.
  • 5.Add winterizing chemicals along with the Winter Pill. Test your Baquacil Sanitizer level and top it up to 50. Add double your normal amount of Baquacil Algicide and Baquacil Oxidizer.
  • 6. Secure an ice expansion pillow in the center of your pool. See air pillow - pool sizing chart below. This will help prevent damage to walls due to water expansion when frozen. This is a sacrificial item!!
  • 7. Secure cover according to manufacture's instructions. The Winter Pool Cover should "drape" over pillow and rest on the surface of your pool water. Cover should NOT be pulled taut and NEVER use jugs and weights to hold down the cover. If you have strong winds, use Cover Clips and Winter Cover Seal. Once the cover is in place, secure the winter cover cable. Add water to top of your cover to assist in keeping cover from billowing.
  • 8. Clean your solar cover, ladders, hoses and accessories with Cover Cleaner and Surface Cleaner. Make sure all of these items are dry before storing them for the winter. The best place to store your solar cover and accessories is in a dry area that is not subject to severe weather or temperature.
